Emily & Chris | Avondale Villa

There are a few facts you should know about 4220 Woodvale Road. It is located on the southern slope of Red Mountain atop Avondale Park. The location was a part of the original Birmingham Zoo consisting of many non exotic animals including Alabama’s only elephant, Miss Fancy. In February 2011, the city of Birmingham spend over $2 million renovating Avondale Park, and this site is also home to the amazing venue, Avondale Villa.

Emily & Chris chose Avondale Villa to be the site of their gorgeous September wedding. They began their wedding day getting ready and taking photos at the Historic Tutwiler Hotel. The day was expertly executed by M Elizabeth Events and captured on camera by Jonathon Davis of JD Photography.

Sticking with the theme of a fall wedding, Emily insisted on fall colors such as oranges, golds, reds, and greens. Her favorite flower is a dahlia, and September is a prime month for dahlias in Alabama. Emily chose the mango calla lily for her bridal bouquet which was wrapped in ivory ribbon. Chris wore a khaki suit and his lapel was also decorated with a mango calla, red spray rose, and an orange zinnia.

Emily’s bridesmaids wore tea length green dresses and carried beautiful bouquets made of mango calla lilies, zinnias, dahlias, and ranunculus while the flower girls {that look straight out of a magazine} wore hair wreaths of the same flowers.

Emily and her mother fell in love with our iron gate which was used as the backdrop for the ceremony. Designer Justin used badges of the weddings flowers as well as greenery to create a lush fall landscape. The family seats were decorated with a mixture of dahlias, mango callas, red& yellow roses, and greenery while every other row was decorated with a single stem dahlia, greenery, and crimson ribbon.

Inside the villa was where Emily & Chris chose to display their wedding cake, chocolate fountain, and buffet. The fall colors and flowers continued throughout the venue from the garland over the mantle, to the buffet centerpiece, and guest tables.

In addition to gorgeous landscaping and beautiful brick turrets, Avondale Villa also has a spectacular stone patio which served as the location for the reception. Lighting expert Alex Garmon of AG Lighting strung cafe lights across the patio and DJ Wayne Ingram provided tunes that guests danced to into the night.

Thank you again Emily & Chris for allowing us to provide the decor for such a special day.

I am thinking of hosting my own wedding and reception here, and was curious of how you rehearsed and got ready? Did you get ready there, get ready elsewhere and travel to the venue, rent a hotel room? I really want to have my wedding here, but the only problem I am having is I want time to rehearse and I live in Calera so I am unsure of traveling the day of the wedding after I am dressed in my gown since the villa only has a small bathroom. Any suggestions?
