Kolson + Jason | Wedding & Reception at Faucett Brothers Activity Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market was contacted last summer by one of our favorite Birmingham wedding planners, Meghan Cease, of M. Elizabeth Events, to do the flowers for Kolson and Jason’s wedding and reception at Faucett Brothers Activity Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Kolson and Jason are both into fitness and the venue was the perfect fit for both of them!

Mark Broadway Photography from Dothan, Alabama was very gracious by sharing the photos with us and we hope that you’ll check out his website because his work is amazing. The wonderful tree trunk cake was done by Barb’s Cakes. Our favorite detail of this wedding is definitely the live artist, Joy Varnell, who painted the wedding ceremony live on site. She has worked with several of our brides and is very very talented.

For us, Kolson’s wedding was unique in one particular way: we never met the bride! Meghan contacted us prior to Kolson’s bridal portrait session because she needed a bouquet for the photographs. After the session, Kolson loved the bouquet and wanted it duplicated for her wedding. The bride’s family were constructing the ceremony décor as well as reception decorations, and all that would be needed were personal flowers.

Kolson’s bouquet was made up entirely of white peonies and was then wrapped in a single layer of burlap, leaving the stems exposed.

The bride’s hair wreath was created with white hydrangea and cream spray roses. Long cream ribbons of different textures trailed down the back of her long, dark hair. Stunning!

Erin + Matt | St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Wedding & Ross Bridge Resort Reception

Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market absolutely loved working with Erin and her mother to create a beautiful concept for a summer wedding. Erin and Matt were married this past June at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

One of our favorite photography duos, Kelli + Daniel Taylor Photography, captured the day and we’re always grateful to them for sharing their work! The day was expertly planned by Meghan Cease of M. Elizabeth Events.

Erin was a classic, stunningly gorgeous bride and carried a traditional handheld bouquet of white roses, hydrangea, scented geranium leaves, dusty miller, and fresh lavender. The stems were wrapped in a white satin ribbon and completed with white crystals.

Erin’s bridesmaids wore vibrant blue dresses and carried clutch bouquets of bold pastel flowers including Amsterdam and cool water roses, antique green hydrangea, green hypericum berry, dusty miller, rice flower, soft pink calla lilies, and fresh lavender.

Matt’s boutonniere was a single white mini calla lily with a backing of dusty miller and a sprig of rosemary.

Erin and Matt’s mothers each carried tussie mussies in traditional silver holders. The tussie mussies were made of antique green hydrangea, green hypericum berry, and Amsterdam roses.

The favorite flower of many Southern brides is hydrangea and we love to incorporate it anywhere we can. Antique green hydrangea is a hearty variety and holds up well for long periods of time. For Erin’s pew markers we used a single stem of antique green hydrangea.

Upon arrival at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, guests were greeted by a large arrangement in bold colors. The flowers in the arrangement included Amsterdam and cool water roses, blue delphinium, a mixture of herbs, antique green hydrangea, green hypericum berry, peach stock, soft pink mini calla lilies, Bells of Ireland, pink snap dragons and fresh lavender.

Two large arrangements flanked the altar. These arrangements were composed of many of the same flowers used throughout the wedding.

Ross Bridge Resort and Spa is one of our favorite wedding venues in Birmingham for many reasons. It’s natural beauty is one of the main ones.

Erin and her mother did a great job with details and incorporated the main wedding color, blue, into many different ways. These included William Arthur wedding invitations, koozies, menu cards, escort cards, etc.

2013 SoHo Bridal Show by Perfect Wedding Guide |Homewood, Alabama

If you’re engaged in Alabama then you know where to be on the first Sunday in August – the Perfect Wedding Guide SoHo Bridal Show. Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market is always thrilled to participate in this bridal show and 2013 was possibly the best yet!

This unique bridal show is put on each year by the ladies at Engaged! A Wedding Library in Homewood, Alabama. Rosewood Hall is an event venue in Birmingham that is wonderful because it lends itself perfectly to be divided into five different “weddings”. Each room {including the building’s entryway} is sponsored by a florist and caterer in order to provide brides with a full wedding experience.

We had the luxury of sponsoring the center room so we felt we needed to go big or go home. We went big of course! Thank you, thank you, thank you, to Arden and Mo of Arden Photography for getting these awesome shots of our décor. Without you guys we would have nothing to show off.

When brides entered our space at Rosewood Hall the first thing they saw was our huge, 8′ birch tree which served as the centerpiece for the food table. The tree was decorated with smoky amethyst and clear crystals draped from the top to the bottom. Rustic-chic iron birdcages also hung in the tree with beautiful, soft-toned arrangements in them.

The arrangements included mounded and cascading blooms of green hanging amaranthus, femma roses, white hydrangea, Choco cymbidium orchids, cherry brandy roses, variegated pittosporum, vendela roses, and succulents.

Andy Tolar of Design Productions did an amazing job hanging two of his Edison bulb chandeliers from the ceiling to create a romantic atmosphere. Did we mention that our space also won best booth?

We also had a variety of bridal bouquets that brides could hold, take photos of, and generally get a feel of what they liked best.

We’ll be there again this year and hope to see you as well!

Katie + Luke | Wedding & Reception at The Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana, AL

Katie came to Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market to design her wedding after we designed her fiancé’s sister’s wedding. The best compliment we can get is when one bride refers us another. Thank you, Hannah!

Katie and Luke chose to have their wedding and reception at The Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana, AL. If you’ve never been there we highly suggest taking a visit soon.

Birmingham photographer Jason Qualls captured the day and we appreciate him always providing us with beautiful photos.

Katie’s bouquet was a cream and blush hand-tied bouquet. It included  Vendela roses, green trick dianthus, blush parrot tulips, white peonies, blush garden roses, white lisianthus, and soft pink spray roses. It was wrapped in an ivory satin ribbon and completed with a locket containing a photo of Katie father.

The groom’s wedding boutonnière was a white ranunculus backed with a leaf of dusty miller.

Friends end family of the couple built a beautiful, free-standing wooden cross to serve as the altar backdrop. Designer Andy Seale created a lush, all white bouquet of white hydrangea, Eskimo roses, and stock to decorate it.

The most important ladies in Katie’s life wore knee length turquoise bridesmaids dresses and carried clutch bouquets of mini green hydrangea, hot pink peonies, and Polar Star roses. The bouquets were wrapped in a contrasting white satin ribbon.

The bride’s cake was topped with pastel flowers such as Juliet garden roses, soft peach spray roses, Polar Star roses, and white hydrangea. The blooms were also clustered on alternating layers of the cake. Cake pops were another fun part of Katie’s cake table.

Luke’s groom’s cake was a nod to Toomer’s Corner, a historic landmark in Auburn, AL.

Guest table centerpieces were a mix of clear and vintage blue Mason jars with touches of burlap and lace. A wildflower look was created using blooms like rice flower, lisianthus, Queen Anne’s lace, stock, ranunculus, and more.

The bride and groom also entertained guests of their wedding with lawn games such as cornhole. We love the “Mr. and Mrs.” game boards!

The night was finished off as Katie and Luke left through a tunnel of sparkers. Congratulations to you both! We were so appreciative to have been a part of your big day!

American Cancer Society 2013 Hope Gala at The Country Club of Birmingham

Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market once again had the pleasure of being asked to provide the flowers and décor for the 2013 Hope Gala benefitting the American Cancer Society. The fundraiser is held annually at The County Club of Birmingham.

The event includes a silent auction, dinner, live auction, and an amazing after party. This year’s gala was photographed by the always amazing Stacy Richardson Photography. With over fifty guest tables it certainly takes a team to pull everything together! Rental items were provided by Event Rentals Unlimited and all of the lighting and drapery was done by Design Productions.

This year’s theme included yellow so all yellow flowers were used. Silver spandex linens were brought in from Spandex Rentals in Atlanta, Georgia along with buttercup napkins and beautiful gold chiavari chairs from Event Rentals Unlimited.

Because the guest tables varied in size so did the centerpieces. In this flower arrangement two slender, rectangle vases were placed off-centered to elongate the table. Yellow blooms such as yellow garden roses, mini calla lilies, pincushion protea, tulips, and blooming forsythia branches atop silver rocks to create the look for this centerpiece.

Ruth Penton + Whitney | Canterbury United Methodist Wedding & Reception at The Club Birmingham, Alabama

Ruth Penton came to Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market with a very distinct style for her July wedding at Canterbury United Methodist Church. She owned lots of mercury glass containers and wanted to incorporate that into a classic, twenties style wedding.

The ceremony took place at Canterbury United Methodist Church’s Chapel and a brunch reception was held at The Club atop Red Mountain. Later than evening a private dinner was held for close friends and family at Hot and Hot Fish Club.

Birmingham wedding photographer Beth Hontzas photographed the day and we’re extremely appreciative to her for sharing her fabulous work!
